Strategic Planning for ICOS-Ph: Advancing Cardio-Oncology in the Philippines
On June 14, 2025, MTR Consultant Eric Monte facilitated a strategic planning seminar workshop for the International Cardio-Oncology Society – Philippines (ICOS-Ph). This newly established organization is committed to protecting the cardiovascular health of cancer patients and survivors. As a local chapter of the International Cardio-Oncology Society (ICOS), ICOS-Ph aims to bring global standards of care to the Philippine context.
Since its inauguration in April 2025, ICOS-Ph has quickly gained recognition in the medical community. The launch event brought together a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals—including cardiologists, cardio-oncologists, hematologists, and medical oncologists—underscoring the collaborative spirit essential to the field of cardio-oncology.
During the seminar, Eric Monte guided participants through strategic steps to effectively pursue ICOS-Ph’s Vision and Mission:
Vision:
To be the leading organization in the Philippines advancing the care of patients at the intersection of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Mission:
To promote excellence in education, research, clinical practice, and advocacy in the field of cardio-oncology in the Philippines.
The workshop further outlined six strategic objectives to guide ICOS-Ph’s future initiatives:
- Raise awareness of cardiovascular care among cancer patients and survivors.
- Establish best practices for diagnosing and managing cardiovascular complications in oncology settings.
- Support and conduct research and education in cardio-oncology.
- Promote collaboration among cardiologists, oncologists, hematologists, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Engage in public health efforts and improve patient education on cardio-oncology.
- Foster partnerships with ICOS and other relevant local and global organizations.
With a solid strategic foundation, ICOS-Ph is poised to make a lasting impact on the intersection of heart and cancer care in the Philippines.
